When you give your life to running a successful bed and breakfast, it’s pretty special when a pat on the back, recognition, or accolade comes your way. And that’s particularly true with a nod from a major publication highlighting the best places for Hudson Valley fall foliage views. It’s a celebration because it means you are doing something right.
We are excited to share that World Property Journal named Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast, a top-five fall foliage inn. We are proud to rank fifth among the top inns from across the U.S. With fall foliage season around the corner; we encourage you to visit us for some stunning views and elegant lodging!
What Makes Caldwell House Stand Out
The article “Top 5 Inns to Visit for Autumn in America Revealed” highlights our bed and breakfast as it snags the fifth spot. The Hudson Valley has long been a bucket list place to see beautiful autumn scenery. Visitors come from all over the world to know the area’s fall colors, and we would love to host you at our award-winning bed and breakfast in Salisbury Mills, NY. There’s so much to see and do.
- Explore the beautiful mountains
- Tour local wineries and farms
- Visit historic landmarks
- Tour museums and art galleries
- Indulge in the spectacular local fare
- And experience some of the best live music in the country
When you combine all of this with the surrounding autumn palette, it’s a vacation made in heaven — an enchanting romantic getaway.
Best Times to Visit for Stunning Fall Foliage
Mid- to late October is the best time to visit our inn and the Hudson Valley for those glorious autumn views, but check the Hudson Valley fall foliage map for peak season updates.
Peak season, while short, is truly the best time to glimpse nature’s palette. Here in Orange County, the trees burst with red, orange, copper, and gold hues. We can point you to some of our scenic routes for the best panoramic views.
Explore Salisbury Mills for Stunning Views
There are many ways to glimpse the breathtaking views of Hudson Valley fall foliage, including a cruise through the countryside.
The 500-acre Storm King Art Center contains many trees boasting a rainbow of colors — the perfect background to show off the impressive sculptures. If you take Interstate 84 West from Middletown, you’ll end up at the top of a mountain after Exit Two. Stop at the pull-off and view a spectacular landscape as the entire valley opens up to a view of three states.
While a scenic drive surrounded by autumn splendor is spectacular, another way to see the fall colors is from the river. A Hudson Valley fall foliage cruise gives you an exclusive and captivating view of the vibrant patchwork of colors. Cruise the Newburgh waterfront aboard the Pride of the Hudson or River Rose to take in the impressive autumn palette.
Other ways to enjoy the autumn colors include visiting some of our local parks, trails, and scenic overlooks. We’ve compiled a short list of places to launch leaf-peeping adventures, beginning from Caldwell House Bead & Breakfast in Salisbury Mills.

Outstanding Experience.
“The owner, Dena, was so helpful over the phone and recommended we rent all three rooms in the Carriage House for our family visit: Trophy Point, Vineyard, and Storm King. It was like having our own getaway cottage all to ourselves. Large, well-stocked bathrooms and a gas fireplace in each room. All were spotlessly clean. Nice kitchen on ground floor with full-sized refrigerator, coffee and tea, microwave. Different and delicious breakfast each morning with friendly helpful staff. So much to see within a short drive: Storm King, DIA, Mohonk Preserve, West Point, and more — we’ll be back for another visit.”
