Nestled in the heart of the Hudson Valley is a goldmine of incredible wineries, breweries and cideries. In fact, the Hudson Valley has one of the best brewery scenes in the country! It’s just one of the many reasons to spend some time here. When it comes to beverages where the apple takes center stage, the Angry Orchard is a top cider house in the area. In addition to being a great place to just hang out with some friends and enjoy food and drinks, they offer three tours we think our guests will enjoy!
The experts at Angry Orchard have been experimenting the best hard cider recipes for more than 20 years. They have searched the far reaches of the world, hunting for the best apples for cider making. They are committed to education and that’s part of the reason they offer their tours, which have become very popular with locals and visitors alike.
First is the Barely Awake Tour where visitors will learn about the history of the Orchard and apple growing in the Hudson Valley. You’ll get a lesson on barrel aging and learn about the Cider House as well. This is one tour that you need tickets for and the experience ends with a guided tasting and a special souvenir. This tour is offered at 11am on Saturdays and Sundays and costs $20.
Second is what they call their Barrel Room Tour. This tour is offered at 1pm & 3pm, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. You’ll get an incredible behind the scenes peek into how cider is made. In addition to a tour around the cellar, guests will also be treated to a tasting of their limited release ciders. This tour costs $10.
Third is the Tree House Tour, and while currently closed for the season, it is still worth mentioning for a future visit! If you have ever seen the show Tree House Masters on the Animal Planet, you’ll be impressed to know that they designed the Tree House Tasting Room! On this tour you’ll walk through the orchard to learn a history of the property. Then you’ll get a cider education, a cider tasting and souvenir take-home glass. This tour costs $20—simply check back on their website for tour reopening dates.
They are currently in their peak season at the orchard so weekends can be busy. If you are interested in a guided tour, they recommend arriving earlier in the day or later in the afternoon. Also, if the parking lot happens to be full, there is additional paring at Walden Lanes. It’s a great place to try some amazing, local Hudson Valley cider and learn about the innovations of craft ciders.
