Cross Country Skiing Trails in Upstate NY

In looking forward to the start of a new year, what’s on your “must do” list? We are all hoping 2021 holds a bit more “normal” so we can get out and enjoy what truly makes us happy! Travel has been hard and here at the Caldwell House, we’re crossing our fingers that we will have the opportunity to welcome even more guests this year. Located in Bear Mountain, NY, this state park has more than six miles of groomed trailed. The skiing is free but there is a parking fee.  

Fahnestock Winter Park

This fantastic winter park in Carmel, NY provides more than 10 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails that go through a variety of terrain. A lodge with ski rentals is on site.

Mills-Norrie State Park

In Staatsburg, NY, this state park offers many trails, eight of which can be used for cross country skiing.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve

This popular area in Kerhonkson, NY, has nearly 20 miles of groomed carriage trails for cross country skiers. Ungroomed trails also are available.

Thomas Bull Memorial Park

Located in Montgomery, NY, enjoy cross country skiing as well as snow tubing, sledding and skating.

Wallkill Valley Rail Trail

Located in New Paltz, NY, this area has a 12.2-mile path perfect for cross-country skiing. You will see some beautiful countryside and downtown.

Mohonk Preserve

Linked to the Mountain House, the preserve is located in Gardiner, NY and only a half hour drive from The Caldwell House. You will need to purchase a day pass at the Visitor’s Center. There are over 100 miles of carriage roads and trails and the scenery is spectacular!
